SUPERVISOR:
The office of Township Supervisor is an elected board position,the Supervisor is here to serve the residents of Oceola Township. The Supervisors job is to address inquires, complaints, administer's Special Assessment Districts and perform various State mandated statutory duties which include:
- Moderate all Township Board meetings
- Act as the Township's legal agent
- Develop the Township budget
- May call special meetings of the Township Board
- Recommends Planning Commission members
- Maintain the records of the Supervisor's office
- Secretary to the Board of Review
- If certified, act as the Chief Assessing Officer
- Land splits
- Other duties assigned by the Township Board
The Supervisor's office directly oversees the Assessing, Planning, Zoning, and Land Use.
CLERK:
The office of Township Clerk is an elected board position, responsible for keeping the township's documents and records. The Clerk is also responsible for the care and upkeep of the township cemetery records, and is Chair of the Cemetery Commission. Additional duties include administering the Oath of Office for all Township elected or appointed offices, the township's records retention, and human resources.
One of the primary functions of the Township Clerk is to maintain all voter registration records for Oceola Township , as well as being responsible for all aspects of all elections, including the selection and training of election inspectors.
By State Law the Township Clerk's statutory duties include
- Maintaining custody of all township records
- Maintain's the general ledger
- Prepares warrants for township checks
- Recording and maintaining the township meeting minutes
- Keeping the township book of oaths
- Responsible for posting special meeting notices
- Publishing board meeting minutes
- Keeping the voter registration file and conduct elections
- Keeping township ordinance book
- Prepares financial statements
- Deliver's tax certificates toSupervisor and County Clerk by September 30
- Must appoint a deputy
- Must post a surety bond
TREASURER:
The office of Township Treasurer is an elected board position. Most of the duties for the Treasurer's position are regulated and dictated by the State of Michigan.
The Township Treasurer's Statutory Duties are:
- To collect real and personal property taxes
- Administer special assessment districts (S.A.D.)
- Issues township checks
- Keep an account of township receipts (revenues) and expenditures
- Deposit township revenues in approved depositories
- Invest township funds in approved investment vehicles
- Collect delinquent personal property tax
- Responsible for jeopardy assessments in collecting property tax
- Must appoint a deputy
- Must post a surety bond
TOWNSHIP BOARD of TRUSTEES:
The Township Trustees Statutory Duties Include:
- Township legislators, required to vote on all issues
- Responsible for township' fiduciary health
- Other duties as assigned by board
TOWNSHIP BOARD:
The Township Board sets government policy for Oceola Township and is the elected local legislative body of the township. The Board meets once a month (most months per meeting schedule) at 7:00 pm at the Township hall. Prior to each meeting, agendas are available in the Oceola Township Clerk's office at 1577 N. Latson Road. To have a item put on the agenda, please submit it to the Clerk's office the Wednesday one week prior to the board meeting.
The Oceola Township board consists of the Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer and four Trustees. They adopt an annual budget that determines the scope of township services. The Board also adopts both general and zoning ordinances to protect the community's health, safety, and welfare. They oversee all township employees, programs and services.
Regular meetings are for conducting township government business. Actions range from paying bills to authorizing purchases. There is a public comment section listed in each meeting agenda. The public is welcome to address comments or questions to the Board at these "Call to the Public" sections. While questions normally will not be answered at that meeting, the Board will make every attempt to provide answers to the public's questions.
Democracy is government by the people. While the Township Board is lawfully responsible for governing the township, the Board needs to hear the perspective and views of the residents. Keeping abreast of township issues and providing your viewpoint is not only essential to township success, it is your responsibility.

ZONING:
The Zoning Department handles the day to day inquiries in regards to zoning from business people and residents and handles the processing of applications through the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and the Township Board of Trustees. Additionally, long term planning projects are included in this department.
ASSESSING:
The Office of the Assessor is responsible for the assessing of real and personal property in the township. Property Transfer Affidavits and Principal Residence Exemption Affidavits are filed and maintained by this office.
The assessing departments main function is to maintain a record of each property in the township. The types of data maintained on assessment record cards are building sketches, legal descriptions, square footage and year built. This office also maintains section and plat maps.
The issuance of tax identification numbers fall under the responsibility of this office.
Personal Property records are also filed with this office.
Appeals of assessments are made to the Board of Review.
